Can Cheteswar Pujara become the next Rahul Dravid for the
Indian Cricket team? The question arises because this young talent from
Saurashtra province has shown his uncommon batting techniques in the India vs
New Zealand series in recent past. As of latest, the youngster has hit a double
hundred against the visiting England team at Ahmadabad in the ongoing first
test of the 4 match series. Let us review how far he can stand up to the
occasion in future.
Cheteswar Pujara is a right handed batsman from the state of
Gujarat in western India. He plays the domestic ranji trophy matches for
Saurashtra and has many records and hundreds to his name. But the topic here
is, he has found a place after the retirement of greats like VVS Laxman and
Rahul Dravid. In the India-New Zealand series, he hit his maiden test hundred
and proved critics wrong who had been questioning his inclusion in the national
test team. But now he has shown signs of maturity and played a sheer test match
innings with lot more composure. From the yet to be finished first against
England at Ahmadabad, I feel he is meant to play test cricket.
India is looking to fill the vacuum created by the wall,
Rahul Dravid’s retirement and Pujara has proved that he can be the worthy
factor to fill it with back to back marvelous performances. What I like the
best about him is the calm and cool approach to the ball of a bowler and plays
it to perfection. He never shows any kind of too aggressive intent to score
fast or get a hundred quickly. He just plays his natural game with ‘wait for
the moment’ attitude, much similar to that of Mr.Wall, Rahul Dravid’s.
To narrate or speak on much on this topic might be little
bit over confidence from my side and so, I also wait for the moment to see my
expectations for Pujara come true.
