Signal Vs. WhatsApp Vs. Telegram – Which Private Messaging App is better alternative?

Want to switch off your WhatsApp profile and looking for best alternative private messaging apps? Here I am comparing two relatively new apps – Signal & Telegram, with WhatsApp for making your choice convenient. Even if you are new to these platforms, my review can help you take step by step guide.

Very recently Facebook has made public announcement that its private messaging platform WhatsApp is going to share the user data with other social media websites/apps. WhatsApp has thus updated its privacy policies. A simple question pops out here is: “if you are going to share the confidential information of users, then why are you calling it as privacy?? “

Very clear to say, you or your profile information are no longer secure over WhatsApp. Privacy has actually turned out to be a joke, believe it or not. Many users have started shifting to other alternatives like ‘Signal' private messaging app which assures your privacy better. ‘Telegram’ messaging app has also seen daily surge in number of downloads and increasing users. Let us compare the best features of Signal with that of Telegram and WhatsApp altogether which makes it so exciting for users to quit WhatsApp or other apps.

(1) End-to-End Encryption: Like WhatsApp, messaging through Signal is end to end encrypted with ‘Sealed Sender' and ‘4 digit passphrase' features that ensure high quality data security. That is to say, no third party except the sender and receiver can view, read or breach any part of it by any means. Telegram for PCs and desktops does not provide E2E in its web version by default. You have to enable the secret chats feature while Signal has detailed procedures to use desktops version.

 (2) Group Chat: You can create groups and make multiple admins in Signal messaging platform like WhatsApp. Editing group info is also very similar.

(3)Media Sharing: Like WhatsApp, you can send/share and receive photos and video clips of all format types through Signal app.

(4)Desktop Support: WhatsApp runs in PCs and desktops through its ‘WhatsApp Web' feature. Similarly, Signal App is easily accessible through Laptops, PCs and desktops other than Smartphones. Telegram by default is accessed at web.telegram.org.

 (5) Voice/Audio Message: Like recording and sending voice messages in WhatsApp, you can also record and send or receive audio messages in Signal.

 (6) Voice/Video Calling Support: Making voice calls or video calls using high speed internet data by WhatsApp is a well known feature. Signal App also allows voice/video calling through internet with super clarity.

So, from the above comparative analysis, no measure difference is pointed out between Signal and WhatsApp.

(*) What makes Signal private messaging app better and so much hyped talk of the town is its own adherence to users privacy policies, which WhatsApp is toying with its users off late.

(*) Signal only stores the personal phone number of the user while Telegram has access to your user ID and saved contacts.

(*) WhatsApp and Telegram share the ‘last seen' and ‘online' data of users, but Signal does not share this information.

(*) You can download Signal from Google Play Store. Installing and creating your profile is the very same process as WhatsApp. My ratings to Signal from my personal use of the app is 4.5 stars out of 5.
